OBhetos a Collection of Usables glass vessels
Year designed: 1999
Following the launch of Cafetera de filtro in 1998 OBhetos vessels collection was created and launched in 1999 to wide acclaim.
OBhetos is a collection of diagrammatic and minimal shaped vessels for any hot or cold liquid. Bowles and Linares looked at widening usual perceptions of the shape, material, size and use of vessels and wanted the designs to be produced in the thinnest glass possible with the additional property of resistance to heat. These qualities could only be found in borosilicate glass and they aimed to transfer the blowing and making techniques for laboratory glassware truthfully to these objects. Not only are they heat resistant but also surprisingly light and stronger than expected for such thin glass. Bowles also applied the ambering finish used on laboratory vessels to protect chemicals from UV light. It is an additional process of liquid silver applied to the glass that oxidises and caramelises during firing and gives UV protection for some liquids and beverages when the vessels are in sunlight as well as being very beautiful. The liquid and contents takes over visually when filled – democracy in glass!
Cafetera de filtro coffee jug and filters. The first of the Obhetos designs in 1998 and nominated for a Homes and Gardens Design award in 2000. The glass filter and jug was a unique way to make coffee at the time. Jugs and flasks are sold separately and can be used for hot or cold beverages.
